Wiking Helikopter to Back Siemens Gamesa O&M Ops at Beatrice

Operations & Maintenance

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has awarded Wiking Helikopter Service with a multi-year contract to support maintenance operations at the Beatrice offshore wind farm in Scotland, which will comprise 84 Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines.

The Germany-headquartered offshore flight specialist will provide helicopter hoist operations for technicians and material to wind turbines using an Airbus H145 helicopter, and will operate from its new base in Wick, Scotland.

The Beatrice contract with Siemens Gamesa follows the one signed for the Galloper offshore wind farm in the UK in September 2017, which marked Wiking’s first long-term agreement of this kind in the UK.

“We are delighted that we have been selected by SGRE and value the continued confidence in our high level of safety, quality and performance standards,” said Ernst Nassl, CEO of Wiking Helikopter Service GmbH.

The 588MW Beatrice offshore wind farm, being built in Moray Firth, is currently in turbine installation phase with ten 7MW wind turbines already in place.

The project is scheduled for commissioning in Spring 2019.
