Dutch Terminal Investment Limited (TIL) has been selected winner of the tender to operate South Port in Ashdod, Israel.

The contenders for the port tender were two international companies: TIL and a group led by EUROGATE, German-based operator of container terminals.

The new port is set to start operations by 2021.

Last week Israel Ports Company announced that Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) had won a tender to operate the new port being developed in Haifa Bay.

Under the tender, the Ports Company will be in charge of construction of breakwaters, docks, harbor dredging whereas the international contractors are required to design, finance and build the operating area including infrastructure.

In addition, the operator is responsible for the procurement and installation of operational equipment such as cranes, dedicated vehicles, information management systems and other equipment required.

According to the country’s Minister of Transport, Yisrael Katz, the entry of international operators into the Israeli port market represents a dramatic turning point in the country.

Katz said that the Ministry of Transport and Israel Ports are determined to make the new Ashdod and Haifa ports the driving force of Israeli economy, operated in accordance with the international standards.
