SR2000 sails to Hatston Pier for repairs

Scotrenewables Tidal Power (SRTP) will be conducting minor repair works on the export cable of its SR2000 floating tidal turbine.

The turbine was removed from its moorings at the Fall of Warness tidal testing site and towed across the Shapinsay Sound to Hatston Pier on May 20, 2017.

SRTP engaged Orkney-based renewables services provider Green Marine UK to conduct the towing operation using its Green Isle multipurpose vessel.

“SRTP are taking the opportunity of improved weather conditions to carry out minor repair works on the SR2000’s export cable which was damaged slightly during construction activity in late 2016. Adhering to their low cost vessel philosophy the company plan to carry out the repair operation using only a multi-cat vessel,” the company said in a statement.

The 2MW SR2000 tidal turbine is undergoing grid-connected testing program at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC).

Last month, the turbine reached its full-rated capacity, and more recently, SRTP informed it had generated over 18MWh of energy over 24-hour testing cycle.
