Sovcomflot Loading First Oil from Novy Port Field

Business & Finance

Sovcomflot’s product carriers SCF Yenisey and SCF Pechora started the transportation of first oil shipment from the Novy Port field in the Gulf of Ob (Yamal-Nenets autonomous region), in August 2014.

At this moment, SCF Yenisey is being loaded while SCF Pechora is being prepared for cargo operations, the Russian shipping company said. The vessels have been time-chartered by Gazprom Neft OJSC.

SCF Yenisey and SCF Pechora (some 47,000 DWT each) are the largest vessels transporting oil from this region of the Far North. The tankers are flying the flag of the Russian Federation and have the highest ice class – 1А.

Part of the voyage will run along the Northern Sea Route.

Sovcomflot is planning to use the voyages of SCF Yenisey and SCF Pechora in the Gulf of Ob for studying of the fairway as part of preparation for long-term work on large-scale oil and gas projects in the Yamal Peninsula announced by Gazprom Neft.

The Gulf of Ob, at the mouth of the Ob river, is the largest bay in the Kara Sea bordering the Yamal peninsula in the west. Severe Arctic climate keeps it covered with ice from October till July.
