Palfinger Scores Nexans Aurora Deal

Operations & Maintenance

Ulstein Verft has contracted Palfinger Marine to provide a major deck equipment package for Nexans’ new cable laying vessel Aurora.

Palfinger is responsible for supplying abandon and recovery (A&R) winches, A-Frame, knuckle boom cranes and overhead traveling gantry cranes.

The equipment is scheduled to be delivered to Ulstein Verft until the end of 2020.

The 150-meter Aurora has a turntable with a cable capacity of 10,000t and a deadweight of 17,000t. It will be able to accommodate 90 persons once launched in 2021.

“We have been working on this project for almost two years and most of the equipment has been tailor designed to fit the vessel design,” said Sverre Mowinckel-Nilsen, Sales Director Winches and Handling Equipment at Palfinger Marine.

“We are very proud for being chosen once again by Ulstein Verft for delivering our high-quality equipment and we are looking forward working closely with the yard and owner (Nexans) on this project.”

In July, Nexans signed a deal with Ulstein Verft for the construction of Aurora. Shortly after, MAATS Tech announced it will supply a deck spread for the vessel.
