New Regulations Force Maersk to Release Energy Endeavour (Denmark)

Denmark’s Maersk Oil & Gas will release the Energy Endeavour rig from the contract as the rig’s accommodation unit does not meet new Danish Energy Authority requirements.

The owner of the rig, Northern Offshore, has been informed that the rig will be released at the end of the well in progress on May 1, 2013.  The replacement of the accommodation unit is not commercially viable for either party, Northern Offshore said yesterday in a press release.

Gary W. Casswell, Northern Offshore’s president and CEO, said “We sincerely appreciate that  Maersk have given us very early notice of release of the Energy Endeavour, as it will allow us approximately six months to re-contract the rig in a very tight market.”

Under the original contract the harsh environment jack up rig Energy Endeavour was supposed to stay with Maersk in the Danish Sector of the North Sea until April 2014.
