Iran, India and Oman Talk Gas Pipeline Project

Iran, India and Oman Talk Gas Pipeline Project

Iran, India, and Oman on Friday discussed the prospects of a 1,400km-long deepwater gas pipeline starting from Iran, crossing the Sea of Oman and ending in India.

Omani minister responsible for foreign affairs, Yusuf Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah met India’s External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Friday in New Delhi and discussed the details of the project that is expected to deliver Iranian gas to India.

The gas pipeline figured prominently in discussions, following the success of a deep sea pipeline in the North Sea, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

Later, Khurshid met Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and held discussions with him about the project.

On January, Iranian Ambassador to New Delhi Gholam Reza Ansari said Teheran is examining ways to export natural gas to India.

He pointed to India’s eagerness to import Iran’s natural gas through a deep-sea pipeline, and said Teheran is considering the feasibility of such a project.
