Final Turbine Parts Arrive at Borkum Riffgrund II Site

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up Bold Tern left Esbjerg on 26 August with the final four MHI Vestas 8MW turbines for Borkum Riffgrund II. According to the vessel’s AIS data, Bold Tern is now at the construction site.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier is in charge of installing the offshore wind farm’s 56 V164-8.0MW turbines. The company’s jack-up first set sail to the Borkum Riffgrund II site on 3 May, carrying the first wind turbine components.

On 28 June, half of the wind turbines were in place and the offshore wind farm produced first power at the beginning of August.

According to Fred. Olsen Windcarrier, the fastest installation of four turbines on the project was done in four days, with the fastest installation of one turbine taking less than 15 hours.

The 450MW project comprises 36 wind turbines installed on monopile foundations and 20 on 50m high jackets with 10m high suction buckets.

Ørsted, the developer of the project, plans to officially inaugurate its new offshore wind farm in Germany in 2019.
