Exergy wins heat recovery unit deal for Thai LNG terminal

Exergy, the Italian manufacturer of ORC systems, in partnership with Baker Hughes, a GE company, has been contracted to provide a waste heat recovery unit at PTT LNG’s terminal in Thailand.

The partnership has been awarded a contract by Samsung Engineering, for the design and construction of a 5 MW ORC unit for waste heat recovery from gas turbines at the Map Ta Phut LNG terminal.

Samsung Engineering acts as EPC contractor for PTT LNG, Exergy said in a statement.

Exergy’s ORC solution, equipped with radial outflow turbine technology, recovers the exhaust heat downstream generated from the two gas turbines installed at the LNG plant, to generate 5 MW of electricity.

The heat recovery plant exploits a large amount of the residual heat, otherwise discharged by the gas turbine into the atmosphere.

The ORC will start commercial operation in the first half of 2019, Exergy said.

It was the first contract for Exergy in the heat recovery market for the oil and gas application, and the company noted this market will become the primary focus in the near future due to the demand growth in the sector.
