Dong Energy Gets Approval for Drilling in Norwegian North Sea

Dong E&P Norge AS (Dong) has received consent to conduct exploration drilling in block 3/7 offshore Norway. The well will be drilled with the Mærsk Giant jack-up rig.

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has granted Dong consent to carry out exploration drilling of well 3/7-9S. The objective of the drilling activity is to examine the potential of a prospect in production licence 289, where Dong is the operator.

The plan is to start drilling in January/February 2013 and the activity will have a duration of about 90 days.

The drilling location is in the southern part of the North Sea, approximately 235 km southwest of Lista. Water depth at the site is 67 metres.

The Mærsk Giant rig was built in 1986 at Hiatchi Zosen in Japan. It is owned and operated by Maersk Drilling. The facility is registered in Denmark and Lloyds is the classification society. The facility received an Acknowledgement of Consent from the PSA in February 2004.
