DCNS rebrands to Naval Group

French naval specialist DCNS has rebranded to Naval Group, while also changing the name of its subsidiary dedicated to marine renewables to Naval Energies.

The Naval Group name links the company’s historical activities to the new business activities in marine renewable energy, Naval Energies said.

The reasons for choosing to diversify the activities in these areas lie in the knowledge of the sea and in the synergies which exist from a technological point of view between the systems developed on vessels and the new solutions designed in marine renewable energies, according to Naval Energies.

Naval Energies, formerly known as DCNS Energies, was launched in January 2017 to accelerate the development of marine renewable energy sector by bringing tidal energy, ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) and floating offshore wind technologies to full maturity.

Naval Group’s Irish-based subsidiary focused on tidal energy developments, OpenHydro, was integrated into Naval Energies.
