BorWin Gamma Preps for Installation

Storage

The BorWin gamma topside is currently being prepared for installation onto its jacket foundation in the German North Sea.

The installation will be carried out through a float-over process, which means the topside is pulled over the jacket by letting water into the barge to lower the structure onto the foundation.

The team is currently conducting dynamic positioning test runs before beginning the installation.

The 76m long jack-up barge JB-117 is also available on site for the coordination of all work, as well as accommodating the personnel.

As reported earlier, the topside completed its journey from the Drydocks World – Dubai to the installation site some 130km off the German coast on 7 October, after some delays in the last few kilometers due to the weather.

The commissioning of the BorWin3 grid connection is expected in 2019.

When operational, the 900MW BorWin3 HVDC platform will convert the alternating current produced by offshore wind turbines to direct current before transmitting it onshore to the German national grid via a 160km cable link.
