Blumara on the lookout for tidal support

Blumara Corp is looking to appoint a Junior Naval Architecture Technologist who will provide support for ship design and tidal energy industry activities.

The Halifax-based marine renewables services provider Blumara said the responsibilities for the position include working primarily on its commercial and naval ship design and building support activities, noting however that the candidate will also have an opportunity to become involved in and gain experience of the tidal energy industry in Canada.

One of the responsibilities of the post is to provide assistance with the structural design calculations, including finite element analysis, which goes in line with the recent funding award Blumara received from the Offshore Energy Research Association of Nova Scotia (OERA) for a tidal energy research project.

Namely, OERA-funded project will see Blumara use a computer modeling technique known as finite element analysis to simulate the impact of a tidal turbine blade on fish and to assess whether mortality of marine life can be expected in such an event.

Blumara Corp will be working with Nova Scotia Community College on the project, set for completion in March 2018, whose expected outcomes include the development of a methodology and prediction tool for use in assessing the likelihood of mortality for fish-turbine interactions.
