USA: Fox River Dredging Still Stalled

Fox River Dredging Still Stalled

Dredging vessels remained moored in the Fox River north of De Pere on Monday, three days after U.S. District Judge William Griesbach ordered NCR Corp. to resume PCB cleanup in the waterway.

NCR shall ensure the immediate commencement of full-scale sediment remediation as described,” Griesbach wrote in an order filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Green Bay.

The order requires at least three dredging vessels to operate around the clock for at least five days a week on most weeks through Nov. 9. It allows for shorter operation times on start-up and holiday weeks, and says at least 660,000 cubic yards of sediment must be removed.

Asked when actual dredging efforts would have to resume, Justice Department spokesman Wyn Hornbuckle Monday referred a reporter to Griesbach’s order.
