According to reports made by the Iranian news agency Shana, the first offshore platform of the South Pars Phase 14 would be launched by late May 2018.

Hamid Reza Masoudi, of the POGC public relations department, said last Sunday that the project’s overall progress reached 80% while the construction of the offshore platforms for the phase were 91.5% complete.

According to the official, the drilling and pipeline construction reached 80 and 90 percent respectively and daily production of 28.2 million cubic meters of gas from Phase 14 would be possible by the end of September 2018.

The company also completed the drilling of seven wells for the phase while pre-commissioning operations on subsea pipelines of platform 14A and a pipeline to carry gas from the project’s refinery to the refinery of phase 12 are underway.

If all goes according to plan, a withdrawal of 500 million cubic feet of sour gas, equivalent to 14.1 million cubic meters, will be sent from the reservoir of the 14A platform to the Phase 12 refinery on a daily basis.

The operator of the project added that additional drilling of eight wells for the 14C satellite platform was underway and installation and launch of the platform were scheduled for the end of September this year.

With another 500 million cubic feet of sour gas from the 14C satellite platform daily, the first phase of the South Pars Phase 14 development would be able to produce a total of one billion cubic feet of sour gas, equivalent to 28.2 million cubic feet, per day from two platforms.

Massoudi said that the POGC would start well drilling operations on platforms B and D as soon as the CRA tubes arrived. He added that the first gas sweetening train of the refinery, as well as its utilities unit, would be operational by late 2019.

According to the Pars Oil & Gas Company, the development project of the South Pars Phase 14 is aimed at producing 56.6 mcm of sour gas and 75,000 barrels of gas condensate.

Annual production of more than 1 million tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), one million tons of ethanol to be consumed by petrochemical units, and a daily production of 400 tons of sulfur have also been envisaged in developing the project.

South Pars Gas Field (the North dome in Qatari side) is the world’s largest gas field which is located on the joint border line between Iran and Qatar in the Persian Gulf. The gas reserves of this huge gas field comprises about 8% of the total gas reserves of the world. Iran’s section is estimated to hold some 14 trillion cubic meters of gas plus 18 billion barrels of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
