Eni's CEO Under Investigation Over Bribery Case in Algeria

The prosecutor of the Republic of Milan (Procura della Repubblica di Milano) has started an investigation for an alleged corruption involving Saipem’s and Eni’s activities in Algeria.

Eni today announced that the investigation includes its Chief Executive Officer, Paolo Scaroni.

According to Reuters, the prosecutors are investigating alleged bribes paid in Algeria which helped Saipem to win contracts worth USD 11 billion. Saipem and Eni reportedly paid 197 million euro in bribes, to secure the contracts.

“Eni and its CEO declare themselves totally unrelated to the object of investigation,” said the Italy-based oil company in a press release.
