Norway: Ship Equip Installs Over 900 SEVSAT Systems

Business & Finance

For Ship Equip 2011 has started off with a bang as the total number of installed SEVSAT systems passed 900. Add to that a record order backlog of more than 230 SEVSATS and it is easy to see that the future for Ship Equip looks bright.

“We have anticipated this for a while” says CEO Ivar Nesset: “As the installation rate hit 24 SEVSATS in December 2010, or more than one new SEVSAT per working day we saw the installed base grow quickly towards 900. It is what we have planned for and built our organization for. Still it could not have happened without all our loyal but also very challenging and demanding customers which have believed in our product and our capability. We owe them everything Mr. Nesset says and continues: “Our main focus’ will be to continue providing superior support and unsurpassed uptime on our service. Providing 20 Gigabytes of data and voice communication per ship per month at a low fixed price is hard for anyone to compete against.”

“We believe our share of the current market is between 10% and 20%” Chief Sales Officer Gilles A. Gillesen states. “Still only around 5% of the world market have adopted VSAT technology as of today, meaning there are 50.000 ships or more that would benefit from such solutions. With this technology we believe it is possible to reduce costs and increase billable days for the ship owner. This is one of the key drivers to convert to this technology” Mr. Gillesen concludes.

“Even with the present record rate of installations we still have capacity to install more systems” says COO Esben Flo. We have recently opened a new office in Rotterdam where we have engineers ready to install our SEVSAT service. This office also stocks antennas and spare parts enabling us to deliver and install quicker and at a lower cost for the customers. During Q1 2011 we will also open a new office in Dubai, with the same setup as in Rotterdam. Including our offices in Singapore and Houston we will be present in key shipping ports worldwide with personnel, antennas and parts ready to install our SEVSAT service on short notice” Mr Flo states.
