Evergreen Line Christens Two L-Class Containerships in South Korea

Ever Leading, the fourth L-type containership of Evergreen Line, was christened by S.S. Lin, the Evergreen Group’s First Vice Group Chairman, at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard last week (September 12, 2012). The ceremonial rope cutting for the new 8,452-TEU vessel was performed by Ms. Kitty Yen, Chairman of Evergreen Sky Catering Corp in a ceremony attended by dignitaries from Taiwan and abroad.

Mr. Lin was present at the naming ceremony for Ever Laurel, the fifth L-type containership on September 12, when Ms. Molly Mok, Chairwoman of Evergreen Marine (Singapore) cut the rope of the new ship.

Ever Leading is owned by Evergreen Marine (UK) Ltd. Ever Laurel belongs to Evergreen Marine (Singapore) Pte Ltd. The L-class containerships are 334 meters in length, 45.8 meters wide, with 942 reefer plugs and a draft of 14.2 meters. The vessels can cruise at a speed up to 24.5 knots. Both ships will join Evergreen Line’s Far East – Europe routes after delivery this month.

For fleet rejuvenation, Evergreen Group commenced a new shipbuilding project in 2010 and ordered 20 L-type vessels from Samsung Heavy Industries. In 2011, Evergreen placed an order for another 10 vessels of the same specifications with Taiwan Shipbuilding Corp. Seven of the thirty newbuildings are expected to be delivered by the end of 2012.

L-class containerships are fitted with alternative marine power, ballast water treatment system, electronic-controlled fuel-injection engine that supports slow steaming and many more eco-friendly designs. With its forward-looking planning, Evergreen Group adopts the latest marine technologies not only for quality transportation service but also for sustainable development of the marine ecology.
