Siem Offshore Contractors (SOC) has awarded the German cable maker Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH (NSW) with a contract for planning, producing and delivering of the inter-array cables for the Trianel Borkum II offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

The two parties signed the contract which includes the planning and manufacturing of around 60 kilometres of medium voltage submarine power cables, the delivery of which is planned for middle of 2018.

The cables will connect the wind farm’s 32 Senvion 6.33 MW wind turbine generators to the existing substation, which was installed as part of the Trianel Borkum I wind farm.

Trianel Borkum II is located about 45km off the island of Borkum and about 44km to the northwest of the island of Juist in the North Sea.

SOC won the contract for a turnkey supply and installation of the inner array grid cable system for the wind farm in November 2016. The contract was awarded by Trianel Windkraftwerk Borkum II, the developer of the wind farm.

The marine installation works are currently scheduled to be undertaken as of the third quarter of 2018, but are subject to the project final investment decision, which is expected to be taken in the second quarter of 2017.

The 200MW Trianel Windpark Borkum I became fully operational in mid-July 2015.

In October 2015, EWE AG and Trianel set up a joint venture to develop the second stage of the offshore wind farm.
