Tocardo to install 5 tidal turbines in western Netherlands
Tocardo has announced plans to install an array of 5 tidal turbines in the Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier. Tocardo’s five T2 tidal turbines are expected to be operational this autumn and have a total capacity of 1.2 MW. It will supply electricity to 1.000 households. The Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier, located in the province of Zeeland, is designed to protect the Netherlands from flooding from the North Sea.
Sabella to install its D10 tidal turbine on June 25
Sabella iss performing preparations ahead of the planned installation of its 1 MW D10 tidal turbine on June 25, in the Fromveur Passage, off Ushant Island, France. Subject to suitable weather conditions, Sabella will commence with the immersion of the turbine on Thursday, June 25. Once the team confirms the immersion procedure was successful, Sabella will begin with the immersion of the jumper and export cable to complete the deployment operation.
Nova Scotia company inks $4.7 mln tidal contract
Hawboldt Industries has secured a $4.7 mln deal with Cape Sharp Tidal to supply equipment that will be used for turbine deployment in the Bay of Fundy. Hawbolt Industries will be responsible for the design and manufacturing of three heavy lift winches that will be used on the deployment and recovery barge. Cape Sharp Tidal plans to deploy and grid-connect two 2 MW tidal turbines off Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, in fall 2015.
Horizon 2020 grants €3.4 mln for wave energy development
A team of European experts has secured the funding from Horizon 2020 to develop a new project whose aim is to advance the wave energy sector. The WETFEET project will look into development of new materials and components to be incorporated in wave energy devices, and analyze technical, economic, financial, and environmental issues that need to be addressed in order to improve wave energy sector.
Stonehenge to develop wave energy farm off Western Australia
The Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Stonehenge Metals and Yanchep Beach Joint Venture for the collaboration on the development of Protean wave energy farm. The wave energy farm consisting of 30 Protean wave energy devices with the total capacity of 45 kW will supply power to Yanchep, an outer coastal suburb located 56 km north of Perth.
