BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair, Norfolk, Va., is being awarded a $49.4 million firm-fixed-price contract for the fiscal 2013, USS Porter (DDG 78) extended dry-docking selected restricted availability.

USS Porter (DDG-78) is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer built by Ingalls Shipbuilding.

The contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $61.2 million. All work will be performed in Norfolk, Va., and is expected to be completed by April 2014.

This contract was competitively procured via the Federal Business Opportunities website, with two proposals received. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.

The Missile Defense Agency announced that Porter would be upgraded during fiscal year 2013 to RIM-161 Standard Missile 3 (SM-3) capability in order to function as part of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System.
