World’s Largest Offshore Wind Farm Turns Four

Operations & Maintenance

The 630MW London Array, the world’s largest operating offshore wind farm, has marked four years since its official inauguration in Margate, Kent, on 4 July, 2013.

London Array, located in the Outer Thames Estuary, first started generating power in October 2012.

The wind farm’s 175th and final Siemens turbine was brought online in March 2013.

Construction began in July 2009 when work started to build a new onshore substation on the north Kent coast to flow the energy generated by London Array straight into the national grid.

The wind farm is owned by E.ON (30%),  La Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (25%), DONG Energy (25%), and Masdar (20%).
