Wisdom Marine Books Two More Bulkers in Japan

Business & Finance

Taiwanese shipping company Wisdom Marine is investing USD 68 million in two new NOx Tier III bulk carriers.

The company said that the two 82,400 dwt bulkers would be ordered from Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU).

Details on the expected delivery of the ships were not disclosed.

Wisdom Marine has been very active on the newbuilding scene over the recent period.

Just last month it ordered two 37,800 dwt bulker newbuildings from the Japanese shipbuilder Imabari Shipbuilding, paying USD 24.5 million apiece.

The order came on the heels of a buying spree from the end of last year which saw Wisdom Marine order two 61,000 dwt bulkers from Tokyo-based builder Kawasaki Heavy Industries and buy a 63,700 dwt bulk carrier from Chijing Shipping.

Based on its website data, the current fleet of Wisdom Marine is comprised of 127 ships. Thirteen new ships are being constructed for the company at several Japanese shipyards, with four of them set to be handed over this year.

Four additional newbuildings are scheduled for delivery in 2019 with four more following suit in 2020.

The final Handysize bulker, being built at Imabari Shipbuilding, is expected to be completed and delivered in 2021.
