Beach renourishment in Cherry Grove and Windy Hill, South Carolina, is now officially complete, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District, said in its latest announcement.

The first ‘reach’ of renourishment had no issues and weather was perfect, leading to completion several weeks ahead of schedule.

According to USACE, the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company crew will now be moving equipment to Garden City and expect to start work there in a couple of days.

The project replaces some 280,000 cubic yards of sand lost to Hurricane Florence. It was to have merged with last year’s Hurricane Irma beach nourishment project but delays in completing the Myrtle Beach segment pushed the North Myrtle Beach segment into this spring.

The public may track the project in real-time by using the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Charleston District’s web mapper here.
