Windpark Fryslân turbine installation about to begin

The installation of Siemens Gamesa turbines at the Windpark Fryslân nearshore wind farm in the Netherlands is set to commence at the beginning of March.

The 382.7 MW Windpark Fryslân will comprise 89 Siemens Gamesa 4.3 MW turbines located in the IJsselmeer Lake.

According to the project developer, all preparations are almost ready, Van Oord installed the final foundation in December and almost all cables have been laid.

The plan is to have the wind farm producing electricity before the summer of 2021.

Once fully commissioned, Windpark Fryslân will become the largest wind farm in the world installed in inland fresh water.

In addition, Altenburg & Wymenga has been commissioned to monitor the effect of the wind farm and the newly constructed artificial island on the ecology.

Together with Bureau Waardenburg, the Frisian consultancy will be responsible for the ecological monitoring for the next five years.
