“Wind Lift I” reached the project site of the first commercial wind farm in the German North Sea

Yesterday the BARD-jack-up-barge “Wind Lift I” reached the installation site of BARD Offshore 1, the first commercial wind farm in the German North Sea.

The Windlift I left the Emden harbour in the late evening of  March 27th. to set for the project site, located about 100 km northwest of the island of Borkum where it will start installing the foundations.  On March 25th. the first two components for offshore foundations were loaded onto a pontoon at the Cuxhaven Offshore Base. The so called transition pieces were produced at Cuxhaven Steel Construction GmbH.  All preparations for the installation of the first foundation of the overall 80 “BARD 5.0”-windturbines are ongoing.

The project site covers approximately 60 square kilometres and the water is around 40 metres deep.  The wind farm is expected to produce 400MW.  transpower stromübertragungs GmbH, a subsidiary of TenneT Holding B.V.,  will be responsible for transporting the power to the mainland and feeding it into the grid.
