The small bulk carrier operator said the transaction was in line with its confidence in market strength.

The ships have already been chartered in by Wilson since the beginning of 2017. The Norwegian shipowner said it was spending NOK 94 million (USD 11.2 million) on the acquisition.

The delivery of the vessels, ranging between 2,350 and 2,850 in dwt, is expected to be completed by the end of 2018. The second-hand ships were built between 1995 and 1997.

Following the acquisition, the company will operate a fleet of 114 bulkers, of which 88 will be owned by the company.

Two more ships are set to join the company’s fleet next year. Namely, Wilson ordered two 2,600 dwt dry bulk carriers from Wuxue Janda Shipbuilding in February 2018.

The shipowner is paying EUR 4 million (USD 5 million) per unit.
