Wiking Helikopter Starts Offshore HEMS Flights

Operations & Maintenance

Wiking Helikopter Service has won a multi-year contract to provide Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) on BARD Offshore I, Butendiek, Nordergründe and Veja Mate offshore wind farms located in the German North Sea.

The contract was signed with the operators of the four wind farms: Ocean Breeze Energy, OWP Butendiek, OWP Nordergruende, and Veja Mate Offshore Project.

The service started in the late summer. HEMS flights are carried out with Leonardo Helicopters AW139, departing from Wiking’s home base at JadeWeserAirport near Wilhelmshaven.

Under the terms of the contract, Wiking is providing the rescue helicopter including pilots and hoist operators on a 24/7 basis.

The cooperation partner, Offshore Response and Safety ORS GmbH, is providing the medical part including emergency doctors, paramedics, medical equipment, and rescue coordination center and telemedical consultation.

“We are delighted that we have been selected by four offshore windpark operators to prove our continued confidence in our high level of safety, quality and performance standards,” said Ernst Nassl CEO Wiking Helikopter Service GmbH.

“As the leading HEMS helicopter service provider in the North Sea, we are proud to again build with these partnerships on our 43 years aviation experience supporting our wind offshore customers.”
