WATCH: TechnipFMC Subsea 2.0

Business & Finance

TechnipFMC has recently launched Subsea 2.0, a product platform that according to the company makes subsea projects simpler, leaner and smarter.

When combined with the company’s iEPCI integrated approach to field architecture and project execution, Subsea 2.0 improves project economics and unlocks first oil and gas faster.

TechnipFMC introduced iEPCI to transform subsea projects throughout the entire process of full field development. The value proposition integrates front-end design and life of field to streamline project execution.

Now TechnipFMC said it has gone one step further by bringing together expert teams to rethink how subsea production could be even more efficient.

The Subsea 2.0 is a product platform made up of six core products designed by combining field-proven and new technologies. The core products include the compact tree, compact manifold, flexible jumpers, distribution, controls and horizontal connectors.

The smaller, lighter products achieve up to a 50% reduction in size, weight and part count, while maintaining the same or better functionality, TechnipFMC explains.

TechnipFMC said it has invested heavily in the research and development of Subsea 2.0 and designed it specifically to accommodate iEPCI using LEAN product and process engineering. Further, the product platform has been standardized at the component level for configuration  and optimized to improve performance over the life of the field.

This new “configure to order” model means there is a 70%-90% reduction in manual activities during the production process, reducing hardware delivery time. With Subsea 2.0™, it is possible to achieve zero hours of product engineering after the contract has been formalized.

“Subsea 2.0 represents a transformative step in the future of subsea and our company’s vision to enhance the performance of the world’s energy industry,” said Brad Beitler, executive vice president, Technology and R&D at TechnipFMC. “Subsea 2.0, when combined with iEPCI, will further improve our clients’ project economics.”

“Subsea 2.0 fundamentally redefines the norms for subsea products in terms of size, weight, modularity, standardization, cycle time, installability and costs,” said Paulo Couto, senior vice president of Integrated Sub-Systems at TechnipFMC. “We are extremely proud of our unique approach and what we have developed for our clients.”

TechnipFMC has incorporated Subsea 2.0 elements into several ongoing projects including Shell’s Kaikias subsea development, which sits in 1.39 kilometers of water in the Gulf of Mexico and is a tieback to the Ursa tension-leg (TLP) platform. On March 4, TechnipFMC and Shell celebrated the delivery and installation of the first application of TechnipFMC’s compact pipeline end manifold (PLEM) and horizontal connection system technologies with flexible jumpers.

Subsea 2.0 products are compatible with tiebacks, brownfields and greenfield projects. Additional products are said to be in development and will be added to the product platform as they become available.
