VNG to award Fenja drilling contract to NADL rig

Business & Finance

Norwegian oil company VNG Norge has issued a Letter of Intent (LOI) to North Atlantic Drilling Limited (NADL) for drilling of the development wells on the Fenja project in the Norwegian Sea.

The Fenja field, located in PL 586 license, will be drilled using the West Phoenix rig, VNG said on Monday.

The LOI covers six fixed development wells on Fenja; three producers, two water injectors and one gas injector. Drilling is expected to start in 2020.

In addition, the LOI covers three optional wells before and three optional wells after the fixed period.

The final contract will be signed pending a final investment decision (FID) planned for later this month, and subject to the authorities’ approval of the Plan for Development and Operations (PDO).

Operated by VNG, the Fenja field is expected to be developed as a subsea tie-back to Njord A platform. The field is set to be developed in two stages with two oil producers and one water injector starting production in early 2021 and one oil producer, one water injector and one gas injector starting production in early 2022.

VNG recently signed a letter of intent with TechnipFMC for engineering, procurement, construction and installation of Subsea Production Systems and SURF (Subsea structures, Umbilicals, Risers and Flowlines) for the Fenja development. Just like the one with NADL, this contract will be signed pending a final investment decision.
