Video: Tanker Engulfed in Flames in Indonesia

An oil product tanker named Srikandi 511 suffered a fire earlier today while the vessel was docked in Barito Muara Kuin River, Banjarmasin, Indonesia.

Based on the video from the scene released on Youtube, the fire had spread down the river as well, as the fuel oil from the vessel spilled.

There have been no casualties and all crew members are reported to be safe, Indonesian state-owned oil and natural gas corporation Pertamina said.

Pertamina added that the fire at its Banjarmasin fuel terminal, one of its key fuel supply points in South Kalimantan, was extinguished at 4 p.m.

The company added that the fuel supply from the terminal was not impacted and that cooling measures had been undertaken so as to prevent the fire from spreading. As a precaution, the operation of jetty number 3 has been suspended, while the jetty number 1 is working normally.

The extent of the damage caused by the fire as well as its cause are yet to be determined.

The Indonesian-flagged small clean tanker of 2,700 dwt, built in 2013, is part of PT Harita Prima Abadi’s fleet, according to the data from VesselsValue.
