Video: Offshore ground modeling with AW-Energy and Lloyd’s Register

Business & Finance

AW-Energy, a Finnish wave energy developer, has released a video showing the new method of generating a 3D ground model of an offshore site developed by Lloyd’s Register.

The video animation summarizes the innovative method to generate a 3D ground model of an offshore site used at the installation site for WaveRoller, AW-Energy’s nearshore wave energy converter in Peniche, Portugal.

It undertakes specific offshore and onshore geological mapping techniques and integrates them within the latest 3D modeling software.

The method was developed for the extreme high energy environment of Peniche, where traditional survey and site investigation such as offshore borehole samples were deemed too challenging.

As reported earlier, Lloyd’s Register awarded its first Technology Qualification certificate to AW-Energy, after more than two years of cooperation.

The award followed the loan of €10 million AW-Energy received from the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the construction of a full-scale 350kW WaveRoller demonstration unit which will be deployed in Portugal later this year.
