VIDEO: Maersk Oil’s Culzean CPF jacket en route to North Sea

Danish oil company Maersk Oil has informed that Culzean’s 8,540 tonne central processing facility (CPF) jacket has started its journey across the North Sea.

The CPF jacket for Maersk Oil-operated Culzean gas development in the UK sector of the North Sea was built by Heerema Fabrication Group’s Vlissingen yard in The Netherlands. It was loaded out on June 14 and sailed away on June 28.

According to Maersk Oil UK Managing Director, Morten Kelstrup, when the jacket arrives at the Culzean field, it will be put in place within the next couple of weeks by the heavy lift vessel Thialf.

The CPF jacket will be the second Culzean jacket to get to the field following the wellhead platform jacket and the wellhead access deck, which were placed on location in May 2016.

Following the arrival of the CPF jacket, the field will be ready for the arrival of the third and final utility and living quarters (ULQ) jacket shortly thereafter.

Once all the jackets are in place, the next step will be the arrival of topsides which will happen over the course of 2018.

With the sailaway of the CPF jacket, Maersk Oil got another step closer to first gas from Culzean in 2019.

Culzean is considered the largest hydrocarbon discovery in the UK North Sea for over a decade. It is some 233 kilometers east of Aberdeen and is expected to produce between 60,000 – 90,000 boepd at plateau production, producing for at least 13 years. The project was sanctioned in August 2015.

The Culzean development concept consists of a wellhead platform, a central processing facility platform, and separate utilities and living quarter platform with capacity for over 100 people linked via two bridges around 100 meters in length.
