Vattenfall Adds Deutsche Bucht Offshore Wind Farm to Direct Marketing Portfolio

Business & Finance

Vattenfall has gained the 252MW Deutsche Bucht (DeBu) offshore wind farm project as its newest direct marketing customer.

The Hamburg-based Vattenfall direct marketing team will be promoting Deutsche Bucht after project completion which is expected by the end of 2019.

An agreement to this effect was established with the original project developer, British Wind Energy (BWE) and Vattenfall. Northland Power, now the 100% owner of the wind farm, announced the financial close for the project in August 2017.

“Over the years, Vattenfall has gained a sound expertise in offshore wind power thanks to its position as a large-scale offshore wind farm operator. That covers both the operation and marketing of offshore wind power,” said Christine Lauber, Director of Sales and Origination Germany at Vattenfall Energy Trading.

“We are delighted to count Deutsche Bucht among the projects benefiting from our expertise and are happy to welcome Deutsche Bucht offshore project as a direct marketing customer.”

Deutsche Bucht is Northland’s third offshore wind project. It is located 95km northwest of the island of Borkum in the German Exclusive Economic Zone. The total estimated project cost is approximately EUR 1.3 billion. Deutsche Bucht will be connected to the 800MW BorWin Beta offshore converter station which has already been constructed.

“Northland has enjoyed a positive and collaborative working relationship with Vattenfall since first engaging on the Deutsche Bucht project. We look forward to continuing to work productively together to maximize the value of the project for both ratepayers and stakeholders as we contribute clean, renewable energy into Europe’s electricity grid,” said Boris Balan, Vice President of Europe for Northland Power.
