Vår Energi’s precommitment to subsea systems to cut tie-back development time by up to one year

Norwegian oil & gas company Vår Energi has signed a pre-commitment agreement with OneSubsea, a joint venture (JV) backed by SLB, Aker Solutions and Subsea7, for the delivery of subsea production systems (SPS), a move expected to shorten subsea tie-back development time by up to one year.

Under the SPS pre-commitment program, work starts immediately to deliver two equipment packages, with the first consisting of a complete SPS system, including four vertical subsea trees, wellheads, templates, manifolds, umbilicals and all other associated SPS equipment, which upon delivery can be deployed by Vår Energi to any field.

The second package includes the engineering and procurement of all components needed for another same-size SPS system, enabling a reduced lead time for any subsequent project developments, SLB noted.

The order will be delivered before the summer of 2027, while the parts necessary for drilling will be delivered in 2026.

The agreement further involves securing materials and reduced delivery time enabling opportunities for continuous fast-track deliveries into Vår Energi’s project portfolio.

According to SLB, the award leverages the existing strategic subsea partnership agreement between the two companies for standardized subsea equipment, supporting multiple upcoming oil & gas developments on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).

“Vår Energi has a high value early phase portfolio of more than 20 projects, with a target of developing projects from discovery to production in less than four years,” said Torger Rød, COO at Vår Energi.

“Efficient measures to shorten the lead time and control the supply chain for key equipment is important to reach these goals and will support our plan to sustain production at 350-400 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day towards 2030.”
