Vallourec lands contract with TotalEnergies for Angolan deepwater project

France’s tubular solutions provider Vallourec has secured a contract from compatriot energy giant TotalEnergies to supply almost 5,000 tons of oil country tubular goods (OCTG) solutions and associated services for the Kaminho deepwater project on Block 20, 100 kilometers off the coast of Angola.

Vallourec will supply TotalEnergies with its VAM connections and CLEANWELL, a dope-free, environmentally-friendly solution.

The company will also provide VAM field service and tubular management services (TMS), which involve managing the inspection and preparation of tubes before leaving for the drilling platform and returning to the storage area.

The products will be manufactured at Vallourec plants in France, Brazil, and Indonesia.

Vallourec is also supporting TotalEnergies with its products and services in other parts of Africa, including the CLEANWELL solution in Nigeria, Gabon, Congo, and Mozambique. 

According to Vallourec, the company has also supplied nearly 5,000 tons of tubes and connections to TotalEnergies for exploration and appraisal in Namibia.

The Kaminho project which is said to be the first large deepwater development in the Kwanza basin, encompasses the conversion of a very large crude carrier (VLCC) to a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit, which will be connected to a subsea production network. 

The all-electric FPSO aims to minimize greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and eliminate routine flaring by fully reinjecting associated gas into the reservoirs. Production is set to start in 2028, with a plateau of 70,000 barrels of oil per day.

The Kaminho project will require over 10 million man-hours in Angola, mainly with offshore operations and local yard construction.

Regarding our most recent coverage of the project, TotalEnergies awarded SLB with a contract for a 13-well subsea production scope. SLB will support the project locally for offshore operations including assembly, manufacturing of modules, installation, commissioning, and life-of-field services. 

The partners said that they plan to work together to deliver a sustainable project that will improve production in Angola.
