USCG Issues Updated BWMS Approval to Sunrui

Business & Finance

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) Marine Safety Center has issued an updated type approval certificate to China-based Sunrui Environmental Engineering for the company’s BalClor ballast water management system (BWMS).

As informed, the updated certificate was issued to clarify the hazardous location installation requirements on board foreign flag vessels.

A BWMS installed in a hazardous location on a US flag vessel should comply with the relevant hazardous location requirements of 46 CFR 111.105. Installations on foreign flag vessels need to meet the requirements for hazardous locations as set forth by the vessel’s flag administration, according to the USCG.

Approved earlier this month, the Sunrui BalClor system incorporates a three-step process consisting of filtering and electrolysis during uptake and neutralization at discharge. The approval covers fourteen models with maximum treatment rated capacities between 170m3/h and 8,500m3/h.

Apart from Sunrui, the USCG has granted type approval certificates to three firms, Optimarin, Alfa Laval and OceanSaver.
