These meetings will take place on Saturday, April 28, at Rowan Park (gymnasium), 11546 South Avenue L, Chicago, IL, and Monday, April 30, at Chicago Public Library Vodak East Side Branch, Chicago, IL.

The purpose of the study is to identify a new location for safe placement and management of dredged sediment needed to maintain the Calumet Harbor and River for navigation.

Life-extension measures are being employed at the existing facility on the lakefront, which will soon close, said USACE.

The facilitated workshops are being held to involve the public, gain input, and foster community awareness of the navigation project and its initial array of alternative sites for a new location.

According to USACE, the open house will include booths set up with subject matter experts available to discuss the dredging, sediment, facility operation, aquatic ecosystem restoration, planning process, and other applicable topics. There will also be a presentation on the project and proposed locations.
