USACE Approves Offshore Wind Farm in Atlantic City

Offshore wind developer, Fishermen’s Energy, has now got all the necessary federal and state documentation to start building the first U.S. demonstration offshore wind farm.

Namely, the developer has announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) gave a Clean Water Act permit for the project, the NJ.com, a New Jersey based news portal writes.

The project involves construction of six offshore wind turbines 2.8 miles off the Atlantic City’s coast, with turbines that could produce up to 25 MW, which is enough to supply about 10,000 households with electricity.

Onshore construction is expected to start in 2013, while the offshore part of the project is planned to begin in 2014.
