US subsea player picks up work at offshore oil & gas platform

Operations & Maintenance

Houston-based subsea energy equipment and services specialist Koil Energy Solutions, formerly known as Deep Down, has landed a new deal it deems to be significant, which will enable it to provide maintenance services at an undisclosed oil and gas platform.

According to the U.S. company, the scope of work it will be in charge of entails the removal, welding, termination, and commissioning of specialty alloy tubing used for chemical injection and hydraulic control, as well as the termination and testing of electrical cables.

In addition, the deal involves supplying a topside umbilical termination assembly and subsea commissioning logic caps. While the value of the assignment has not been disclosed, Koil Energy’s latest contract win for maintenance services on an offshore production platform is with an unnamed oil and gas company, described by the subsea player as an international firm.

While the firm’s planning, engineering, and procurement activities for its new assignment have already started at its facility in Houston, the offshore maintenance work is projected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.

The U.S. company claims the increasing number of subsea umbilical re-termination project awards demonstrate its expertise in managing critical repairs in confined spaces, identifying and mitigating risks and hazards before work begins, and ensuring a swift, controlled, and safe start-up to resume well production.

After Koil got hold of a multi-million-dollar contract for flying leads with an undisclosed operator in the Gulf of Mexico last year, the U.S. player secured another multi-million dollar contract in May 2024 when it was appointed to deliver engineering, procurement, manufacturing, installation, and testing for a technical solution for subsea safety control systems.

This was followed in August 2024 with a deal to deliver bend stiffener latchers (BSL), a solution designed to secure a subsea umbilical to a topside facility without divers, to an undisclosed operator in a new region.
