In this energy talk Joris Koornneef, a Strategy Consultant at the Dutch applied energy institute TNO, explains the importance of the North Sea as an energy region.

“Over the past decades, we have produced a lot of oil and gas from the subsurface of the North Sea, exploiting it to the full, and we have reaped the benefits from that,” he said.

“What we see now with the energy transition is that there is a big growth of offshore wind, and a growing potential for carbon capture, and storage, as well as offshore hydrogen.

“Within the North Sea Energy Program, we intend to combine all of these initiatives into an integrated approach to lower costs in the energy transition, use less space, and achieve the transition faster.”
