Unitech Offshore has secured a contract to provide dynamic power cable and grid connection for the TetraSpar demonstration project in Norway.

Unitech said it had been working together with the project partners and investors under an Early Work Agreement up to the signing of the main contract at the end of October.

The FWT Zefyros, former Hywind Demo, has been chosen as the connection point to the onshore grid, the company stated.

“UNITECH is very proud of being selected and to be given the opportunity to contribute to the success of the TetraSpar Demonstration Project,” said Gunnar Birkeland, Unitech CEO.

“We are looking very much forward to continue working with the experts of Shell, Innogy and Stiesdal Offshore Technologies and to help move the floating wind industry closer to commercialization.”

In October last year, innogy, Shell and Stiesdal Offshore Technologies (SOT) signed an investment and cooperation agreement to build the demonstration project using SOT’s TetraSpar floating foundation concept, on which a 3.6MW Siemens Gamesa direct-drive turbine will be installed.

The three companies reached the final investment decision on the EUR 18 million project at the beginning of this year.
