UK: Wave Hub to Extend Its Site and Activities

The Crown Estate plans to undertake negotiations with Wave Hub (representing The Secretary of state for Business Innovation and Skills) in relation to the potential variation of its existing lease of a test and demonstration site off the North Cornwall coast.

In a notice published on its official website, The Crown Estate further states:

The negotiations will include (1) a proposal to permit the extension of Wave Hub’s activities to include demonstration of floating offshore wind turbine generator technology and (2) a proposed increase in the capacity of the overall Wave Hub site from 20 MW to 50 MW. Subject to minor variations to the lease associated with permitting the installation of a single floating offshore wind turbine generator and such capacity increase, all other terms and conditions of the existing lease relating to the Wave Hub site will remain unchanged.

The installation of any such floating offshore wind turbine device would be subject to Wave Hub procuring all required statutory consents.
