UK: Pendennis Shipyard Completes Refit of Motor Yacht Dona Amélia

Pendennis Shipyard Completes Refit of Motor Yacht Dona Amélia

The classic 1929 gentleman’s motor yacht Dona Amélia, recently departed Falmouth after completion of a four-month refit at Pendennis. Works included routine maintenance (engineering survey, service and renovation of her original 1928 Krupp Germania Werft main Engines, overhaul of her generators, AC, water makers, thrusters, hydraulics, windlass).

At 71m she is the largest yacht to undergo a refit at Pendennis in their 23 year history.

The impressive 1929 classic motor yacht Dona Amélia (ex. Haida G), sister ship to a previous Devonport project Talitha G, arrived mid-August 2011. The ship was constructed to be especially strong so that it might serve for long scientific, fishing, and pleasure cruises in the Pacific waters off the Californian coast. Using the latest technological developments, the vessel was equipped with the twin diesel engines that still propel her to this day.

Pendennis has one of the world’s leading custom superyacht build and refit facilities. Building on hundreds of years of local maritime heritage, Pendennis has become one of Cornwall’s most important employers – with 350 highly skilled trades people based at their 6.5 acre prime water front location in Falmouth, UK. Recent infrastructure developments at the yard have seen their outer 75m dry dock completely enclosed and the addition of a 55m (L) x 17m (H) x 16m (W) covered tented space on hard standing in the centre of the yard. Both bring additional flexible undercover space for Pendennis to develop both new build and refit contracts.
