UK Offshore Wind Could Create 215,000 Jobs

Centre for Economics and Business Research issued a report today, commissioned by Mainstream Renewable Power Ltd., which says that UK offshore wind industry may employ up to 215,000 people and increase exports to approximately GBP 22.5 billion by 2030.

As the Bloomberg informs, development of this sector could add 1% annually to gross domestic product (GDP) and create 97,000 work positions by 2020 if power generation reaches 17GW. A little more ambitious, though possible, scenario aims at installation of 49GW of offshore wind power by 2030. Moreover, 173,000 people would be employed with installing of 37GW.

Currently, the government, along with the industry, is planning on reducing offshore wind costs in order to maintain safe power supply while reaching the clean energy target.
