UK Government to Reconsider Severn Tidal Project

The UK Prime Minister David Cameron met the former Labour Minister Peter Hain last month to discuss the proposed tidal barrage project in the Severn Estuary, after which he has asked the Government officials to look into the proposal again.

Mr. Hain, who left his position earlier this year to promote the project, says that the new GBP 30 billion scheme would be completely funded by private investors and it would create thousands of working positions.

According to the Guardian, the consortium of companies behind the tidal project, Corlan Hafren, primarily highlights the strength of its electricity generating capacity in order to push the proposal forward. It is expected to generate 5% of the country’s electricity.
