UK: Flexlife Appoints Directors for Aberdeen and Newcastle

Flexlife, an oil and gas industry specialist in subsea project and integrity management, has recently strengthened its management team with the appointment of two new directors in its Aberdeen and Newcastle offices.

Calum Buchanan joins Flexlife as projects director at the company’s global headquarters in Aberdeen and Philip Surtees has been appointed as the new integrity management director, splitting his time between Aberdeen and Newcastle.

Mr Buchanan brings more than 23 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry, most recently having worked at RBG Limited where he held the position of marine and subsea director for six years. He has also previously worked as UK operations director for Core Tech Group and Core Technical Services, where he was managing director of the Far East division which he helped set up.

In his new role at Flexlife he will have responsibility for the 20 strong project management team. This will involve overseeing the planning, execution and closing of all Flexlife’s projects ensuring cost, time, scope and quality targets are achieved throughout.

Mr Surtees joins the team with over 14 years engineering experience, having developed his skills whilst completing an engineering apprenticeship in the Royal Navy between 1998 and 2006. He then progressed onto ABB Engineering Services where he spent five years in the position of inspection/integrity management manager before joining the Flexlife team.

In his new role, Mr Surtees will be accountable for the management of all Flexlife’s subsea integrity management. He will also ensure the correct resources and competences are in place in order to maintain a robust and well-balanced department.

Stuart Mitchell, director of strategic development, said: “Both Calum and Phil bring years of experience and skill to their respective divisions within Flexlife. Increasing our team with quality people is essential due to our ever expanding client base and the continuous research and development we are doing on our range of asset integrity management technology.

“We are passionate about what we do and constantly strive to provide products that offer unprecedented benefits to operators, helping to improve safety, maximise recovery rates and avoid unplanned shut-downs – and having the right individuals on board is essential in order to make that happen.”

Flexlife’s global HQ is in Aberdeen, Scotland. The company also has offices in Rio, Houston and Newcastle and is looking to open an operational base in Angola. It was Scotland’s fastest-growing young company in 2010.

The company is undergoing a period of significant growth and we estimate its total global workforce to rise to 120 by the end of 2012.
