UK Councilors Debate Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay

Swansea councilors have met today to debate the proposal for the Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay, the South Wales Evening Post writes.

Even though the project would generate the equivalent of 9 percent of Wales’ electricity needs, the tidal lagoon has raised a lot of questions.

Some of the questions and concerns refer to potential effect on sediment patterns, development of large waves along the western lagoon wall, as well as the possible problem with drifting boats.

Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon will be the world’s first, purpose-built, tidal energy lagoon, capable of generating predictable, renewable electricity for over 120,000 homes for over 120 years.

This is a £650 million investment and an opportunity for Wales to lead the UK’s tidal energy industry.
