UK: Companies Attend Presentation by Aquamarine Power's CEO

Ten of Scottish Enterprise’s account-managed companies have attended a presentation by Martin McAdam, CEO of Aquamarine Power.

Based in Edinburgh, Aquamarine Power’s Oyster wave power technology captures energy in nearshore waves and converts it into clean sustainable electricity.

Martin has been a GlobalScot for around three years; bringing over 15 years’ experience in the renewables industry, including half a decade as CEO of Aquamarine Power.

Before taking the helm at Aquamarine Power, Martin was founder and CEO of renewable energy developer Airtricity’s North American operation. He managed the sale of the company to E.On for £0.75bn in 2007.

A proven business leader, Martin completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Harvard Business School in 2004 and holds a BE (Hons.) in Chemical Engineering from University College Dublin. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Member of the Institute of Engineers of Ireland, a Fellow of Engineers Ireland and a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce. He also sits on the council of CBI Scotland.

Talking to representatives of the ten companies, Martin discussed the challenges of taking a start-up to commercialisation – with a particular focus on the financial, technical, and health & safety aspects.
