UK: Coastal Marine Boatbuilders Goes into Administration

Many political leaders have raised their concern over Eyemouth boat building firm going into administration, reports the BBC.

Before going into administration, the Coastal Marine Boatbuilders Limited had received an order to build offshore wind support vessels.

Lib Dem MP Michael Moore said: “I have been working closely with CMBL on their work with the offshore renewable industry so it is deeply disappointing that they have gone into administration even after securing a contract to build support vessels for the industry.”

In spite the administration, conservative MSP John Lamont feels that there seems to be a growing interest in acquiring the Coastal Marine Boatbuilders Limited which would result in conserving the remaining 16 jobs.

Scottish Borders Chamber of Commerce Director Bruce Simpson said that the government is doing everything it can to secure a buyer, as for the obtained contract in offshore wind industry he said: “Renewable energy is an important and growing economic sector in the Borders and across Scotland and offshore wind in particular offers fantastic opportunities.”
